The Lakota of the Pine Ridge reservation

The third is in South Dakota, the Lakota of the Pine Ridge reservation. I have been working for the past 5 years in photographing the people and the land. With Wounded Knee located here there is so much history. The buffalo herds are starting to come back in real numbers, bringing back a very important connection to the Lakota. Each year they have sun dances and a few years ago I had the good fortune to be invited to one by a medicine man, even though I was not allowed to photograph it, the experience was amazing to watch their spiritual connection and commitment.
